Partial List of the Economics Literature Related to FCC Auctions

چکیده
Auctions are used by governments for a variety of purposes. Government debt is managed in many countries by the auctioning of government securities. Foreignexchange auctions are run by many governments, including Jamaica, Bolivia, Nigeria, and Romania. Reforming governments, from the Czech Republic to Mexico, have used auctions to privatize state-owned rms. Developing countries use auctions in franchising infrastructure projects to private rms, in sectors such as water, telecommunications, transport, waste disposal, and power. Governments occasionally use auctions to implement policy: for example, in the 1980s the governments of New Zealand and Australia auctioned import quotas as part of a process of trade liberalization, and in 1993 the government of Russia began auctioning licenses for exports and imports.

Auction design and tacit collusion in FCC spectrum auctions
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has used auctions to award spectrum since 1994. During this time period, the FCC has experimented with a variety of auctions rules including click box bidding and anonymous bidding. These rule changes make the actions of bidders less visible during the auction and also limit the set of bids that can be submitted during a particular round. Economic the...
متن کاملEmpirical Work on Auctions of Multiple Objects
Abundant data has led to new opportunities for empirical auctions research in recent years, with much of the newest work on auctions of multiple objects, including: (i) auctions of ranked objects (such as sponsored-search ads), (ii) auctions of identical objects (such as Treasury bonds), and (iii) auctions of dissimilar objects (such as FCC spectrum licenses). This paper surveys recent developm...
متن کاملOptimal Auctions Revisited
The Internet offers new challenges to the fields of economics and artificial intelligence. This paper addresses several basic problems inspired by the adaptation of economic mechanisms, and auctions in particular, to the Internet. Computational environments uch as the Internet offer a high degree of flexibility in auctions’ rules. This makes the study of optimal auctions especially interesting ...
متن کاملThe Economics of Contingent Re-Auctions
We consider an auction environment where an object can be sold with usage restrictions that generate benefits to the seller but decrease buyers’ valuations. In this environment, sellers such as the FCC have used “contingent re-auctions,” offering the restricted object with a reserve price, but re-auctioning it without restrictions if the reserve is not met. We show that contingent re-auctions a...
متن کاملA Review of Single-Item Internet Auction Literature and a Model for Future Research
Internet auctions have received a considerable amount of attention from researchers. We review recent empirical literature pertaining to single-item Internet auctions and observe that existing work has examined the roles of the auctioneer, bidder, and seller in Internet auctions. As this stream of research matures, research will necessarily move from concept discovery and process explanation to...
